Lakso Privacy Policy

Lakso ("the app") is made by Silsoft Studio AS, a company registered in Norway (organisation number 930 277 770) ("Silsoft Studio", "we", "us").

The short version: Lakso keeps your budget on your devices. We do not run a server for your data, we do not have user accounts, and we do not use analytics, advertising or tracking. We cannot see your income, expenses or any other budget information you enter.

1. What Lakso stores, and where

Everything you enter in Lakso is stored on your own device, inside the app's protected storage:

  • your income, fixed expenses and budget categories;
  • your expenses, their dates, categories, notes and, if you choose to attach one, a photo of a receipt;
  • your savings envelopes and trip plans;
  • your settings (currency, language, cycle dates, notification and security preferences).

This information is used only to calculate your budget and show it to you in the app, on the Lakso widget, on the Apple Watch app and its complication, and in the Apple Pay shortcut. The widget, the Watch app and the shortcut share this information with the main app on your own devices through Apple's standard mechanisms (an App Group on the iPhone, and Apple's Watch Connectivity between your iPhone and your Apple Watch). It does not leave your devices through these.

2. Optional iCloud backup

Lakso offers an optional iCloud backup, which is off by default. If you turn it on, your budget data is stored in your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit and iCloud key-value storage, so it can be restored and kept in sync across your Apple devices.

  • This data is stored in your private iCloud container. Silsoft Studio cannot access it. Only you, signed in with your Apple ID, can.
  • Apple processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). If you turn the backup off, Lakso stops syncing; data already in iCloud is managed through your iCloud settings.

3. Camera and photos

If you use the receipt feature, Lakso asks for access to your camera or photo library. The photo is read on your device with Apple's on-device text recognition to suggest amounts and line items. It is not uploaded to any server of ours. If you save the receipt with an expense, the image is stored together with that expense (and in your iCloud backup, if you have turned it on). You can deny camera or photo access in iOS Settings and keep using Lakso.

4. Face ID / Touch ID

If you turn on the app lock, Lakso uses Apple's biometric authentication. Lakso never receives or stores your biometric data; iOS only tells the app whether authentication succeeded.

5. Subscriptions and purchases

Lakso offers an auto-renewing subscription. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details, name or Apple ID. We only learn, through Apple's StoreKit framework on your device, whether you currently have an active subscription (and whether you are in a free trial), so the app can unlock its features. This status is also written to the on-device shared storage so the widget and Watch app know whether to show your budget. Apple may share aggregated sales and subscription reports with us that do not identify you personally.

6. Notifications

If you allow them, Lakso schedules local notifications on your device (for example, a reminder before your free trial ends). They are not sent through a server, and you can turn them off in iOS Settings.

7. Contacting us and feedback

Lakso has no accounts and no in-app messaging service. If you choose Send Feedback, the app opens your device's email composer, addressed to dev.apps@silsoftstudio.com, with a short technical footer (app version and build, iOS version and language). Nothing is sent unless you press Send in your mail app. If you write to us, we receive your email address and what you wrote, and we use it only to reply to you and to improve the app. We keep such emails only as long as needed for that purpose.

8. What we do not do

  • We do not collect your budget or financial data.
  • We do not use third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking SDKs in the app.
  • We do not sell or share your personal data, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • We do not build profiles or take automated decisions about you.

Apple may collect its own diagnostics and usage data under its terms if you have chosen to share analytics with developers in your iOS settings, or when you use TestFlight. We receive that only in aggregated or anonymised form.

9. Your rights (GDPR / Norwegian Personal Data Act)

Because we do not hold your budget data, most requests are answered by the controls you already have:

  • Access and portability: export your expenses to CSV from Settings.
  • Deletion: delete individual items in the app, or use the erase-everything option in Settings to remove the app's data from your device. Uninstalling the app also removes local data. If you used iCloud backup, remove the backup data in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
  • Emails you sent us: you can ask us at dev.apps@silsoftstudio.com to see or delete them.

Where we process personal data (the emails you send us), our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering your message, or, where you contact us about a service you use, performing our agreement with you. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet, www.datatilsynet.no) or your local supervisory authority.

10. Children

Lakso is a general-audience budgeting app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Security

Your data stays in your device's protected storage and, if you enable it, your private iCloud account, both protected by Apple's security features. No method of storage is perfectly secure, so we also recommend a device passcode and enabling the app lock in Lakso.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change how Lakso handles data, we will update this page and the "last updated" date, and, if the change is significant, tell you in the app.
